Canterbury battle in appalling conditions where rugby was the winner!

Team Harwood were delighted to be match sponsor at Canterbury RFC on Saturday. Despite the weather in the midst of wind and rain, nothing was going to stop this National 1 game and with everyone enjoying a warming tasty lunch beforehand in the club marquee, they were all set to give the team a rousing reception.

At the lunch Harwood Director Ben Cheeseman was presented with the match sponsor tankard from Canterbury RFC Head of Rugby Andy Pratt.

Ben and Darryl from Harwood hosted the table with guests from Jenner, OSG Architecture, Paramount Development, OmegaGeo and Faithorn Farrell Timms.

Canterbury stay strong in defence:

The Match

A dogged performance from both sides, with Canterbury playing into the wind, rain and up the slope in the first half, Chinnor made the most of the advantage and scored the only try of the match. The crowd were behind the team all the way, standing on the touch line willing them on. It was a thrilling encounter as both of these teams had come up from National 2 and have plenty of history. On a day when every point counted and the visitors twice ignored easy penalty chances in their pursuit of tries, but got nothing from a bodies-on-the line defence.

The final score was Canterbury 0 – 7 Chinnor

A losing bonus point was enough to lift Canterbury off the bottom of the National One table.

Ben presented the MOTM to Canterbury RFC winger Ricky Mackintosh in the dry clubhouse!
