Brands Hatch - Update

With our love of cars and all things with four wheels (or two), Harwood have recently taken a private corporate box at the Brands Hatch Motor Racing Circuit in Kent, where we regularly attend events with family, friends and clients.

The box is situated within the Brabham Suite and has superb views of the track, start finish line, pits and winners podium which puts you right at the heart of the action. There is no better place to experience the superb line-up of events that take place at Brands Hatch every season.

Be at the heart of the action of the action opposite the start finish line, the pits and the winner’s podium.

Our suite can entertain up to 25 guests in comfort with its own self-contained kitchen facilities for light refreshments, with full catering facilities available on request.

Race Report – Round 1

Ross Turner

Harwood was pleased to welcome Ross Turner and his sponsors to the Harwood Suite at Brands Hatch on Saturday 22nd July.

Ross and the team would like to thank Harwood for their support this season.

Ross Akechai Turner is a 13 year old schoolboy from Shropshire with an unusual pastime. Every 2 weeks he can be found racing around British racetracks at 130mph while competing in the British Super Bikes championship aboard his Honda Moto3 machine. This is his 7th year of racing having started racing at the tender age of 6 but more surprising is he’s been riding motorcycles for 11 years. In his short race career he has been lucky enough to have raced in Italy, Spain, Germany and Holland and this year he is racing for the first time on the big circuits in the UK.
His latest challenge is to compete in the very competitive Motostar championship at BSB. He’s made great progress moving up the ranks and currently sits in 8th place with only a small points gap ahead to 5th. With strong results in the last 3 rounds Ross is looking forward to his next race at the super fast Thruxton circuit and feels he can push for a podium as it’s a track that will suit his smooth high speed cornering style.
The latest good news for Ross is he’s now been selected to take part in the British Talent cup tryout with the winners being trained to become the next British GP stars. The selection event takes place in August at Silverstone during the GP weekend. Ross says ” This is a dream come true and it’s what I’ve been working towards my whole life, I will try my hardest to be selected and fingers crossed I hope I have what it takes”

Ryan Dixon (British Supersport Championship)

For 2017 Ryan will once again be competing in the British Supersport Championship, the premier support class at the British Superbike Championship. Ryan has purchased a newer, better specification bike which won races last season and is heading towards the season ahead optimistic and confident of some good results! Ryan has also been working hard making sure the bike and all other equipment is ready to go!

A message from Ryan

“I would just like to thank Harwood for their Support in the 2017 Season”

Tim Glover (UK Ford Fiesta ST Championship)

Tim Glover supported by Harwood Building Control Ltd will be racing in the UK Ford Fiesta ST Championship.

Tim Glover reports below on his testing preparation for the season……

“I was able to fit in a day of unexpected testing on Wednesday 15th at Brands Hatch. The weather was perfect and it was a great chance for me to try out my new car for the first time. I missed the first couple of hours running as we made some changes to the car and took time altering the seat position to make sure I was as comfortable as possible in the car. Once I got out on track I immediately felt confident with the car which allowed me to push hard early on to see what the car would do.

With it being a track day format it was slightly frustrating at times as there were cars of all different speeds on the track at the same time and only being allowed to overtake in certain places on the circuit meant a lot of good laps were wasted. However, after a few short stints in the car I was lapping under 58 seconds which had been my aim at the start of the day. Shortly after I set a lap time of 57.2 seconds which equalled last years pole position time. This has left me in a good position and feeling confident going into the first round in a few weeks as I can definitely find some more lap time, with a bit more time in the car. I’m hoping I should be challenging for podiums from the outset. The car is almost ready to go, the livery and logos are being made up by The Vinyl Guys as we speak and are due to be put on the car on April 3rd.”

Martin Robinson, Chairman of Harwood Building Control Approved Inspectors Ltd. commented,

“The Harwood team are very pleased to be supporting Tim and we look forward to welcoming Tim and his supporters to the Harwood Suite at Brands Hatch.”

Pictures of the new livery will follow in due course.

Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship

On Sunday we attended the first round of the British Touring Car Championship which was action packed all the way with plenty of spills and excitement, should be a great season if the action today is anything to go by, cant wait.

British Truck Racing Championship

Easter Monday we were at Brands for six races for the British Truck Racing Championship, along with support races from the Pickup Truck Racing Championship, Legends Cars, and the Quaife Motorsport News Saloons. The showers in the afternoon certainly made for some exciting racing.

MGJ Engineering Stage Rally

We made our first 2016 visit to Brand Hatch on Sunday to watch the MGJ Engineering Stage Rally. It was a great addition to the 2016 race programme and the rain certainly made for an exciting event. Thanks to our guests on the day making this a great opening event of the season and thanks to Brian Hunt for providing the action photos.
