Celebrating a summer of charitable events and local partnerships

Summer is a busy time of year – enjoying a break from work with some well-deserved time off, spending time with friends and family, and maybe taking part in some outdoor activities and events. For our team, not only are we busy delivering our expertise for clients’ projects up and down the country, but we’re also actively participating in local events, building on our strong relationships with partners through supporting local businesses and their charity fundraisers.

Supporting our local community is something we’re very proud of and forms one of our core company values. As summer draws to a close, we’ve taken a look back at some of the events we’ve been involved with this summer.

Swinging success: highlights from charity golf events

Canterbury Rugby Football Club Charity Golf Day

One of our long-standing local partnerships is with Canterbury Rugby Football Club. Having organised numerous events for our staff and clients and being long-term sponsors at the club, we’re always delighted to be invited along to support one of their events.

During the summer, our team had the great pleasure of attending the Canterbury Rugby Football Club charity golf event at Faversham Golf Club – an event we’re keen to support each year.

The day involved an enjoyable round of golf, which included an excitable moment when a hole-in-one was achieved on a par 4! Following the golf, everyone enjoyed a lovely lunch and a prize-giving ceremony for the winners.

Canterbury Rugby Club Academy Golf Day

Our team enjoyed another golf day, this time at the London Club, to raise funds for Canterbury Rugby Football Club Academy.

The day kicked off in style with a spitfire flypast and a shotgun start at 10:30 for the first tee off. It was a glorious day enjoyed by all, capped off with Team Harwood claiming victory.

Following the golf, we all enjoyed lunch and a prize giving whilst being entertained by comedian Adger Brown.

Morgan Sindall Charity Golf Day

Supporting businesses is not limited to those within our community; we also work with clients to support their charity fundraising events. Morgan Sindall invited the Harwood team to their charity golf day at the fantastic East Sussex National Resort.

Our management team, including Ben Cheeseman, Commercial Director, and Jason Lee, Building Control Manager, represented team Harwood in what was a fantastic day of a round of 9 holes, lunch, and another 18 holes.

Laughter at The Marlowe Theatre

Since 2021, our company has taken pride in being a sponsor of comedy events at the Marlowe Theatre. The opportunity to entertain our clients at the theatre is something we never want to miss. During our most recent visit, we had the pleasure of attending Sarah Millican’s sold-out show, ‘Late Bloomer!’.

It was a fantastic evening filled with non-stop laughter and wonderful company. If you’re in search of a fantastic comedy act, you’ll be pleased to know that The Marlowe has an incredible lineup for the rest of 2024 and more in 2025!

Bat and Trap!

For those that might be unfamiliar with the game, Bat and Trap is a bat-and-ball pub game that originated in Kent in the 17th century and is still widely played to this day. Abbott Construction invited our team along to a charity fundraiser in aid of Porchlight, which supports homeless and vulnerable people. After getting off to a great start in our first game of Bat & Trap, it’s safe to say we didn’t bother the scorer too much after that, but we all enjoyed a great evening nonetheless.

Just a couple of weeks later, we had a chance to improve on our previous outing. Clague Architects, situated just around the corner from our head office in Canterbury, invited us along to their annual event at their offices. It was an entertaining evening full of laughter and competitive spirit. But, despite giving it our best shot, along with the other teams, it was the Clague Architects teams who came out on top, making it a 1 and 2 in the final.

Little Britain Challenge Cup Regatta

Our final event of the summer was the property and construction industry’s top regatta, a unique gathering that took place on Friday, September 13th. Industry members came together for a day of sailing, socialising, and fundraising.

We boarded at Gosport, joined by a great crew of clients aboard the Lloyds Lutine. Before setting sail, we began the day with a delicious breakfast. The entire day was spent on the water, with a short break for lunch. We all enjoyed watching the Little Britain Regatta in great company and experiencing the thrill of sailing a beautiful yacht.

Despite the less-than-ideal weather for the racers, the regatta provided a unique opportunity for networking and experiencing the thrill of the event. We finally docked at Cowes Harbour Shepards Marina by 4 p.m. We thank all those who took the time out of their day to join us, and a big thank you to James, our skipper, and Amanda, our first mate, for making the day so special.

Embracing community engagement and collaboration

We’re proud to participate in events and deeply value our involvement in the local community. Our work with our close partners and clients is fundamental to our company ethos.

By being a part of these events, we continue to build strong relationships that not only contribute to the vibrant community spirit, but also give us the opportunity for valuable insights and connections that enrich our service offering and allow us to give back to the areas where we live and work.

There are still plenty of events to come in 2024—we’ll be entertaining clients at our Corporate Box at Brands Hatch for race events in September and October, our annual city lunch at Smith and Wollenksy, the Canterbury Festival in October, and we’re also match ball sponsors for a Canterbury Rugby Club match in November.

These events wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work and dedication of those who have planned and run them, and we extend our thanks to all involved, and for inviting us along.
